My UM

My promise to write about our pilgrimage has to wait. Life goes on immediately and other things have to be told also. First of all has our eldest child, who is 13, travelled all alone by plane from Copenhagen to Prague to attend a course at the Townshend International School in Hluboka (Czech Republic). Since the pilgrimage (which changes people) I have felt secure that all would go well. And I am really proud of my girl. She packed everything herself in her favorite red suitcase, her teddybear included. This age between 12 and 15 is really wonderful: they are still children but at the same time rather grown-up and they are so ... going! Some tears had to be shed when she departed from me at Copenhagen Airport. She travelled as an 'Unaccompanied Minor' (UM) so she would have assistance all the way.

She called home in the evening and said she has had a wonderful trip without any trouble att all. We are not allowed to have any contact with her during the course, so that the child has the best possibility to bond with the group overthere. I believe though that we will receive some emails from the schoolleaders about how things are going.

And today we received some guests with the same nationalities as us: Swedish and Dutch and had a nice time together.

Whoops, while I was writing an email from the Townshend School dropped in. Here a short part from the letter:

They came by plane. They came by train. They came by car. And when they arrived the "future champions of the Cause of God and builders of His civilization" (2007 Ridvan Message) embraced one another and the community of TFP with all the purity and vigour of their hearts. The "precious treasure" (2000 Ridvan Message) are here and safe and making each other happy.

Differences

Some more differences between Israel and Sweden, besides the obvious Israel hot - Sweden cold:

Cats in Israel have long noses and thin tails, in Sweden their noses are short and their tails thicker.

When you turn on the warmwatertap in Sweden it starts cold and becomes warm after a while. In Israel the coldwatertap starts warm and has to run for a while to become cold.

Overweight is a problem in Sweden, obviously not in Israel.

Bahá'í Pilgrimage Part 1: The Trip

The night before we should leave we went to bed angry. Our bed had collapsed under our jumping children and we were forced to sleep on the floor. We didn't think it was the children's fault, because a bed should be made to endure them jumping. Or??? But the idea to come home after the pilgrimage and not having a bed to sleep on did not appeal to us.
As we were going to fly to Israel (transferring in Prague), we were prepared to have sharp security controls and long queuinglines. Nothing of that though: no questions, no opening of bags, no queuinglines. The only problem we had was a disfunctioning computer at the check-in in Copenhagen and we had to wait only because of that. This made us miss a nice Danish hakkebřf dish, but the Czeck guláš a knedlíky was just as delicious.
We were completely exhausted when we arrived at the guesthouse in Haifa after a whole night of travelling and fell asleep directly to wake up next morning when the pilgrimage would start.
