New Blog

I want to thank FortuneCity for hosting this blog for over a year. I will however go on blogging with another host (ClearBlogs) which has more possibilities, especcially on the static parts of the site. YOU CAN FIND ME HERE, WELCOME!

My UM

My promise to write about our pilgrimage has to wait. Life goes on immediately and other things have to be told also. First of all has our eldest child, who is 13, travelled all alone by plane from Copenhagen to Prague to attend a course at the Townshend International School in Hluboka (Czech Republic). Since the pilgrimage (which changes people) I have felt secure that all would go well. And I am really proud of my girl. She packed everything herself in her favorite red suitcase, her teddybear included. This age between 12 and 15 is really wonderful: they are still children but at the same time rather grown-up and they are so ... going! Some tears had to be shed when she departed from me at Copenhagen Airport. She travelled as an 'Unaccompanied Minor' (UM) so she would have assistance all the way. ... (more)

The Martyrdom of the Báb

The Shrine of the Báb

is commemorated by the Bahá'ís today. As we are the only Bahá'ís in town we commemorated this day within the family with prayers and music. Here is the astonishing story of this day.

Pilgrimage Part 2: Some Pictures

The Swedish travelling site Luftgrop has put up some of my photo's. Later I'll make links to all my pictures.

Differences

Some more differences between Israel and Sweden, besides the obvious Israel hot - Sweden cold:

Cats in Israel have long noses and thin tails, in Sweden their noses are short and their tails thicker.

When you turn on the warmwatertap in Sweden it starts cold and becomes warm after a while. In Israel the coldwatertap starts warm and has to run for a while to become cold.

Overweight is a problem in Sweden, obviously not in Israel.

Bahá'í Pilgrimage Part 1: The Trip

The night before we should leave we went to bed angry. Our bed had collapsed under our jumping children and we were forced to sleep on the floor. We didn't think it was the children's fault, because a bed should be made to endure them jumping. Or??? But the idea to come home after the pilgrimage and not having a bed to sleep on did not appeal to us.
As we were going to fly to Israel (transferring in Prague), we were prepared to have sharp security controls and long queuinglines. Nothing of that though: no questions, no opening of bags, no queuinglines. The only problem we had was a disfunctioning computer at the check-in in Copenhagen and we had to wait only because of that. This made us miss a nice Danish hakkebřf dish, but the Czeck guláš a knedlíky was just as delicious.
We were completely exhausted when we ... (more)

Back home!

Izzy

We arived home around noon today, from 38 degrees Celsius in Israel to a flooded Sweden of 16 degrees Celsius. Our cat was happy to see us again. I'll soon write more about our pilgrimage to the Holy Land.

Away for a while

I'm away for a while. In the meantime might visit:
- Borna's blog, a young Bahá'í and footballplayer
- John Barbaras' blog, a Bahá'í and blog-expert
- Wendi's blog, a travelling blog by a Bahá'í (Bahá'ís tend to travel a lot)
- Travelstart/Openjet, the company where I buy our trips (easy to find the cheapest)
- Majnún to google between aproved Bahá'í related sites
- André van Duyn to have a laugh.

And if you wonder where I am, have a look here.
